Laws tell the story of a society. Research supports the idea that humans naturally law and order. As civilizations grew, communities developed normative codes that define what behavior is acceptable and not. There’s story behind every rule or ordinance: something happened in the past that moved the people craft policies to fix a situation which capable of repetition in the future. 

Seen and Heard seeks to tell the stories of people who found themselves entangled in complex legal battles. It draws valuable lessons from cases decided by the Supreme Court to inform and educate readers for their guidance and practical use. With the growing complexities of our society today, there is a need to revisit and re-discover jurisprudence in order build a future based on justice and the rule of law. It is but timely and apropos that these stories be seen and heard.

About the author

Atty. John Stephen T. Humiwat, RN, JD graduated as Cum Laude and class valedictorian in his Bachelor of Science in Nursing class in 2009. In the same year, he landed 9th Place in November Nurses Licensure Exam and was awarded as one of the national finalists of the Search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines.

His experience as a student leader, campus journalist and an advocate of social reform, inspired him to pursue legal studies. Thus, he pursued his studies in law and earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of the East (UE) – College of Law, Manila in 2016. He was then admitted to Philippine Bar in 2017.

Before engaging in private practice, he worked in various executive agencies of the government such as the Landbank of the Philippines, Department of Agrarian Reform, and the Department of Transportation. He renders consultancy work at the House of Representatives and to other local public officials

He was also seasoned lecturer at review center for nurses, teachers and criminologist. He also taught Legal Aspects of Nursing, Governance in Healthcare in the graduated nursing program of the Philippine Women’s University. He is sought-after resource speaker for the Department Interior and Local Government – Bantay Korapsyon Program on governance topics.

On a lighter side, his training in voice and musical theater sharpened his tools in the art of storytelling. He was part of the critically acclaimed films “Verdict” and “Siglo ng Kalinga” where he portrayed a lawyer and a doctor-to-the-bario respectively.
